Gary Went Birding Without Me!

I mentioned that Gary is in Bangkok for nearly two weeks. The weekend finally came and he got invited by a bunch of women to go birding. Why would they invite a legally blind man to go birding with them? To carry the bags, books, and water bottles, of course!  That’s what he does when he goes birding with me!

Not only did he see some terrific lifers, he saw some giant lizards too. Here is an excerpt from his email. Be sure to click the links to see photos of the very cool birds he saw.

I got a good look at a couple cool things:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pink-necked_green_pigeon
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stork-billed_kingfisher
And saw one of these whiz past, but didn’t get to put my little scope on it:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Collared_kingfisher
And a whole bunch of other things–but mostly I didn’t really see them. I suspect Debbie will release a list.

And there was another really cool thing in the reptilian department:

We saw a few of those just swimming around in the ponds. They were at least 4 or 5 feet long and really fat. They looked like inner-tubes with a head and a tile sticking out of them. The third picture down in the Wikipedia article shows that.

I wish I could have been there too!

A water monitor? Like he tells you to turn off the faucet when you’re not using it?
