Smash Cake for Baby’s 1st Birthday

I learned the term “smash cake” this week: a small cake given to a child for his or her birthday to eat however he or she wants to. I made one for Baby Jane’s party today and cupcakes for the adults. It was a family-only party, buy hey, I’m third grandma for Jane, seeing as I”m second mother to her mom.

In other news, Rachel couldn’t join us because she is at an all-day training event for her new volunteer childcare job, earning some professional development hours, even if she doesn’t earn any money!

Gary is almost over jet lag, and he managed to mow the whole lawn, so things look pretty good outside today. We are also in the middle of bluebonnet season, so driving along the freeways is a treat for the eyes.

Gary’s cell phone died while he was travelling. It probably is the battery just like Grandpa Wendell had to deal with recently. I ordered a new battery and we’ll see if that solves the problem.
